bio

poet + editor + amateur filmmaker + ambient music journalist I live in coastal Suffolk. But not always. I write poetry (see publications, below). I run very far, off road, through mud and earth. I edit HARK Magazine. Next year, I will be making a documentary in east Asia. Cinematography. Mountains. I am fascinated by Brutalism. I am fascinated by sound, theories of sound, noise, and silence. Phenomenology. Embodiment. Perception and the creative act. Close, sustained reading as the only means to "get at" a text. Careful observation. I know quite a bit about moths and butterflies. I review and write about ambient/electronic/drone music. I gather books. I have a large walnut desk but it currently, sadly, lives in a cupboard. I read a lot of anthropology/cultural theory/ethnography. I am interested particularly in the archaeological imagination, poetically. The north. Ice. Wilderness. How we engage with and make meaning from the world. Stratification. Memory. Oil painting. Russian culture. My poetry has been published in some of the following places (thanks, folks) : Magma, The Lampeter Review, Butcher's Dog, Ink, Sweat & Tears, Under the Radar, Aethlon, Cadaverine, The Siren, Wild: a quarterly I have read my poems aloud before. I want to do this again. In October, I'm going to run four miles and then attend a poetry workshop. I don't know why, exactly. I'm not sure that really matters. Not really. I also write, or have written for, places such as Igloo Magazine, Imponderabilia, OnlySP, and others. I am working on several large projects at the moment, and am just about finishing my second (unpublished) pamphlet. It's about brutalism, spatiality, and memory. Of course.
